Albatross (2011)

Recently watched: no alarms and no surprises in this coming-of-age tale that puts wild teenager Jessica Brown Findlay up against the bookish, reserved Felicity Jones. Every one of the movie’s developments feel telegraphed and old hat — the crazy girl learns to calm down a bit, the sensible girl learns to live a little — but on the plus side the actual acting feels real and genuine, even if the story arcs don’t. The screenplay is semi-autobiographical in the same way that Juno’s was, and Albatross shares a similar sense of real-life events and emotions given a whimsical cinema sheen.
